14 Sep This Year’s Super Bowl Ads Largely Viewed Online

As far as TV and video ads go, the Super Bowl is king. But are people still watching those ads the same way they always have been? According to a recent study by video metrics company Unruly, the answer to that is a resounding no. The study found that 51 percent of those who had watched Super Bowl XLIX ads did not do so on television– instead, they had viewed the ads on their desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. People aren’t just viewing these ads on the internet– they’re also sharing them. The study found that this year’s Super Bowl ads...

01 Sep Good News for Dealers: U.S. Auto Sales Up for August

Despite the fact that Labor Day weekend comes too late this year to be counted amid August’s sales totals, U.S. automakers posted impressive sales last month. Ford reported a sales increase of 5.4 percent, Fiat Chrysler reported an increase of 1.7 percent sales, and while General Motors reported a minor sales drop of 1 percent, their numbers still came in above August estimates. Overall, the SAAR is still on track to top 17 million for the year-- in fact, Autodata reports that August sales increased to an annualized pace of 17.81 million over the previously-expected 17.31 million. A Sept. 1 article published...

31 Aug Google Chrome to Pause Flash Ads Starting Sept. 1

Starting September 1, the popular Google Chrome browser will no longer support Flash ads-- or any Flash content that isn’t “central to the webpage” on a given site. The reason behind Google’s decision is that many consumers find Flash ads to be more of a nuisance than anything else-- these ads often autoplay and can slow down a browser, particularly when the consumer is on a mobile device, or even drain the battery of a laptop or device faster. By pausing these ads, users can determine whether they want an ad to play or not. Flash-based ads are also notorious for...

17 Aug Google Says Mobile-Only Sites Are a Go for SEO

The search engine giant further emphasizes the importance of mobile-friendliness. Having a mobile-friendly website is important for SEO– in fact, Google has reported before that not being optimized for mobile can hurt a site’s organic rankings on mobile devices. Some have questioned, though, if the inverse is true– if a dealership or other business only has a mobile-first site, eschewing a desktop-first site entirely, will that hurt their organic rankings on desktop? Google’s John Mueller recently weighed in on this question during a Webmaster Office Hours Hangout session, and provided the answer: no, only having a mobile site won’t hurt your rankings, as...

Another change is on the horizon for dealers who advertise with Facebook, one that could make measuring the ROI of your efforts easier than ever. 16 Jul The Subprime Boom & How it Affects Dealers

This growing market segment represents a huge opportunity you shouldn’t ignore. Right now, the auto industry is in the middle of a boom, and a big part of this boom is being powered by the subprime market. The subprime segment of the auto finance industry is growing rapidly thanks to the easing of lending guidelines. Lenders have extended finance terms, lending allowances, and the credit profiles they are willing to lend on, all of which has combined to help this part of the industry surge to represent about 30 percent of the auto finance market. Given there is over $900 billion in...

13 Jul Google Maps Gets a Cross-Device Upgrade

Google announced via Google+ today that users can now send locations directly from Google Maps on their desktop to their iPhone or Android device. All they have to do is be signed in on both devices, and when they look up a map location, a “Send to Device” option will appear. The map location will be sent to the mobile device as a push notification. What does this mean for businesses in general, and dealers specifically? It means that it’s a great time to make sure your business listings on sites like Google Maps are correct, and that users can find...
