28 Jul Get to Know Force: Jacob Smallwood
Each week, we’ll be highlighting a key Force Marketing team member here on the blog. Get to know our team a little better, starting today with Senior Web Developer, Jacob Smallwood!
Q. What’s your role at Force, and what does it entail?
I’m the Senior Web Developer for Helix. I work on maintaining and updating the Helix website, and I also work with our data warehouse, which contains all the data that drives direct reporting.
Q. What’s your favorite thing about what you do here?
We have a lot of freedom in how we get things done in R&D. If we see a new technology or technique that seems like a good fit, we try it out, and if it works well, we use it. I’m always learning and finding ways to make better software.
Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work.
I only eat at the finest restaurants, like Chick-Fil-A and Arby’s. I play a lot of video games. I’ve beaten the first five levels of Super Hexagon; the sixth is impossible. In Madden, the Falcons benched Matt Ryan to make me their starting QB. I went on to throw 54 interceptions that season.
Q. What’s your dream travel destination, or favorite place you’ve ever traveled?
I haven’t traveled much, but I think I’d like to go somewhere with some cool historical sites, like Italy or Egypt or some Mayan pyramids in Mexico. Or actually lots of other places; there’s a lot of history out there.
Q. Did you have any sort of automotive background before Force?
Nope. Everything I know about automotive I’ve learned here.
Q. What’s your dream vehicle?
Anything self-driving. I want to sleep or browse Reddit during my commute.
Q. What’s your theme song?
Q. Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Q. What advice would you give to a new employee at Force?
If you see any buckets, don’t put cloudy drops in them.
Q. What’s your favorite quote?
“Is the puma ready? Maybe we should poke him with the is-the-puma-ready stick.” – Peter Griffin
Q. Any weird talents or facts about you?
My eyes squeak when I rub them. It really freaks people out.
