04 Nov Get to Know Force: Rob Stogdill
Each week, we’ll be highlighting a key Force Marketing team member here on the blog. Get to know our team a little better, starting today with Targeted List Strategist Rob Stogdill!
Q. What’s your role at Force, and what does it entail?
As Force Targeted List Strategist, I like to think of my job as a small, but valuable, part of the “secret sauce” that makes our products and services the absolute most effective in America. I am responsible for helping define, select, discover, target and retarget just the right people, at just the right time. Then our creative and production teams can deliver the high-quality, meaningful advertising messages that get positive and measureable results. I couldn’t ask for a better job.
Q. What’s your favorite thing about what you do here?
The Job: Helping solve complex and ever-changing targeting problems, discovering new ways of finding near-perfect prospects for our clients and mastering the new frontiers of digital targeting. I design targeted list solutions that actually make a difference. How cool is that?
The People: Interacting with every department and every salesperson, as we build and evolve a team of truly talented, awesome employees who are fully engaged and committed.
The Vibe: Young. Dynamic. Growing. Challenging. Awesome music of DJ Danny Swain rocks the house.
Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work.
Well in case you haven’t noticed, I am slightly older than most people here. (Ok, Ok, I’m a lot older than absolutely everyone here. Smiley face.) So, being the official “oldster” has its privileges. I can do nothing all weekend or forget where I put my keys without feeling too guilty. I love visiting my beautiful kids and grandbabies in Orlando and Detroit. Enjoy Ted Talks, especially those about the mind-boggling future ahead.
Q. What’s your dream travel destination, or favorite place you’ve ever traveled?
Key West, with its incredible sounds, tastes, smells. The Duval Crawl. Mallory Square. Sloppy Joes. Pina Colada sunsets. Best of all, it’s in America, sort of.
Q. Did you have any sort of automotive background before Force?
Yup. When I started with Fitzpatrick Advertising in 2010, I had about 20 years experience helping auto dealers communicate with and retain their existing customer bases through highly-customized Dealership Newsletters and Magazines. So I really understood our customers’ marketing needs from the start.
Q. What’s your dream vehicle?
A tricked-out 1969 VW Bus with shag carpeting, blasting out “Tupelo Honey” with Van Morrison. Peace dude.
Q. What’s your favorite quote?
“Stay hungry. Stay foolish.” –Steve Jobs, Commencement Address, Stanford University, June 2005
Q. What song would you pick to be your theme song?
“This is What You Came For” – Calvin Harris/Rihanna
Q. What’s a piece of advice you would give a new employee at Force?
Trust that the dots will all connect, eventually. Enthusiasm moves mountains, literally.
Q. Any weird talents or facts about you?
I gave up skydiving after starting here. Now I just float. Yep, I spend about an hour or two each week in a Sensory Deprivation Chamber, also called an Isolation Tank. It’s filled with warm magnesium sulfate, concentrated salt water, which causes you float. Total darkness and silence without any sensory input. A remarkable, one-of-a-kind experience that people never forget. I relate it to an amazingly deep meditation session. Google it. “Joe Rogan & Floating.”
Q. Aren’t you one of our Google AdWords Certified employees?
Yup. Certified in all 5 AdWords specialties (which Google says is kind of rare, about 1% of all those certified) plus certifications in advanced analytics, digital sales, Bing Ads and 8 different Google DoubleClick specialties (17 total). Either I really love learning new digital targeting stuff…or I’m a bit obsessive. Ya think?
Q. Are you really as enthusiastic as you seem? Aren’t you ever down?
Honestly? From the first day I met John, Randy and Eric at our humble little Alpharetta offices and connected with their “collective vision” of the future of automotive direct marketing, I knew this was going to be the most FANTASTIC experience a person can have in the advertising business. Now, more than 6 years later, it’s even more true. What a ride it has been! It’s still 100% fantastic. Oh and yes, occasionally I do get down like everyone does. But then I just float.
Stay tuned for next week, when we’ll be getting to know another Force Marketing team member! Want to be a part of our incredible team? Take a look at the open positions on our Careers page!
